- They're hangovers from the Julian calendar, in which they were the 7th to 10th months. The calendar we use now is the Gregorian calendar, which was adopted in the UK & colonies in 1752, with Wednesday the 2nd of September, 1752, being immediately followed by Thursday the 14th of September, 1752.
